BEHIND THE NAME
KATE P. COBAIN is a makeup artist based in London who specialises in character, theatrical, and special effects makeup. A graduate of the Makeup and Hair Design course at Southampton Solent University.
Within her work, Kate uses makeup as a transformative tool to design unique characters and create exaggerated, highly conceptual looks. She takes inspiration from her love of the West End, Drag culture, contemporary art and the anti-beauty aesthetic. In making dramatic visual statements with her designs, she aims to celebrate difference and individuality, whilst projecting a strong message or narrative.
Her experience working and performing in multiple theatre productions has equipped her with a firm awareness of the key roles and production processes within the entertainment industry. Having worked both on stage and backstage, as a makeup artist and chaperone, Kate is well acquainted with the fast-paced dynamic of live productions and has learnt to work quickly and professionally under tight time pressure. This has fostered strong team-working skills when collaborating with other creatives as well as the ability to accommodate various makeup demands while making quick and calculated decisions.
Kate also has experience working on editorial photoshoots with fashion designers, to promote their well-established brands. This required a high degree of professionalism and versatility, a strong understanding of the working environment within this industry and an awareness of the importance of perfect coordination with the production team.
